Our free background remover tool changes image backgrounds instantly in your browser. This powerful background change tool works with JPG, PNG, and WebP files, creating transparent PNGs that you can use anywhere. Works like Photoroom with better results on plain backgrounds and keeps your image quality high. Perfect for combining with our Image Converter and Image Resize Tool.
Shoot subjects against a plain, evenly lit backdrop and avoid strong shadows. Start with a moderate Tolerance and increase it gradually in small steps if parts of the backdrop remain. Raise Strength a little to feather edges and reduce halos. Use Preview scale to inspect hair, edges, and fine details. For best results with our background remover, use images with high contrast between subject and background.
Does this background remover tool reduce image quality?
No. Processing runs at the image's original resolution and only changes the transparency of
background pixels. Subject colors and details are preserved.
Which formats are supported for background change?
You can upload JPG, PNG, and WebP. The result is saved as a transparent PNG for wide
compatibility with editors and design tools.
Why do I see a checkerboard pattern?
The checkerboard shows transparency. If you see the grid, it means those areas are fully or
partially transparent, not gray or colored.
What settings should I start with for background change?
Begin with a Tolerance around 40 and a Strength around 18. Increase Tolerance if background
pixels remain; increase Strength slightly to soften edges if they look harsh.
How does this compare to Photoroom?
Our background remover works like Photoroom but runs entirely in your browser. No uploads, no registration, and your images stay private.
Are my images uploaded?
Local processing happens in your browser, keeping your files private while you work. If you
enable API mode, the image is sent to the configured service for complex scenes.
Can I process multiple images at once?
This demo focuses on single images for speed and simplicity. For batches, repeat the steps or
integrate an API workflow on your server.
What is the maximum image size?
Very large images can slow down the browser. For best performance, keep files under ~25 MB and
use modern hardware.
The download shows a checkerboard — is that saved?
The checkerboard is only a preview of transparency. The saved PNG has transparent pixels; most
editors replace them with their own background.
Can I export as JPG?
JPG does not support transparency. If you need JPG, place the PNG on a solid background in your
editor and then export as JPG.
Some background remains — what should I try?
Increase Tolerance in small steps (5–10). If the subject edge looks thin after that, reduce
Tolerance slightly and increase Strength a little.
Edges look jagged — how do I smooth them?
Increase Strength to softly feather the transition. Also ensure your source photo is sharp and
evenly lit for cleaner masks.
I see a faint color halo around the subject — how do I fix it?
Nudge Tolerance down slightly and raise Strength to blend the edge, or re‑shoot with stronger
contrast between subject and background.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes, modern mobile browsers are supported. Very large images may process more slowly due to
memory limits.
Will EXIF data be preserved?
The transparent PNG is newly generated and typically does not include the original EXIF metadata.
Can I undo changes and start over?
Use the Clear button to reset the canvas and results, then upload the image again with updated
settings.
